Q&A: Deciding On a College Major

I am in my first year of college, studying biology, but changing to a major of speech language therapist. I want to become a DVM, and complete some pre-requisite course while I study speech therapist. Does you think this is a good idea? Do the Vets college care to much about your major? I don’t want to get a biology major, because I also want to have a plan “B”.

Thank you!

Thanks for writing! I think your plan sounds fantastic. It’s always good to have a back-up plan, and I definitely think schools look favorably upon students who choose to study fields outside of biology and animal science. You can definitely show how your studies will be applicable to your job as a veterinarian (e.g. working with people, etc.).

I suggest you read this post: http://www.lifeinvetschool.com/2011/12/22/qa-deciding-on-a-college-major/
