Most of us need help paying for veterinary school, so I’m going to do my best to post scholarships below with information on how to apply for them.

ZOETIS
Pfizer’s new name for their veterinary branch, Zoetis is offering a scholarship for 2nd and 3rd year veterinary students. There will be 350 scholarships awarded in the amount of $2,000 per person. Online application is open from October 1, 2013 through December 2, 2013.

AVMF
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation awards scholarships vet students attending accredited colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States.
- A $2,500 Winn Feline Foundation Scholarship awarded to a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student who demonstrates a keen interest in cats.
- A $500 Dr. Elinor McGrath scholarship awarded to a 1st, 2nd or 3rd year female veterinary student named in honor of America’s first practicing female veterinarian.
- The Association for Women Veterinarians Foundation Legacy Scholarship is open to all 2ndand 3rd year veterinary students.

NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation is pleased to announce its partnership with the Harold Wetterburg Foundation. Together we will be awarding veterinary scholarships to current or former residents of New Jersey who are enrolled in post-graduate education in veterinary medicine. Consideration is also given to current 2nd & 3rd year veterinary students. Approximately $75,000 is awarded annually to individuals with a connection to the state of New Jersey:
- Current or former resident
- Graduation from a New Jersey High School
- Graduation or attendance at a New Jersey College
While preference is given to post-graduate veterinarians, including residents, 2nd and 3rd year veterinary students are also eligible for these scholarships.
Previous recipients of this award may also be eligible to receive continued financial support at the discretion of the Harold Wetterburg Foundation. If a recipient wishes to receive funding in subsequent years he/she will be notified by letter of his/her continued eligibility and the documents required to apply.
Academic progress is monitored. If a recipient doesn’t complete their program they may be required to return scholarship money to the Harold Wetterburg Foundation.
Students attending an AAVMC Member institution in the United States or Canada are encouraged to apply. All awards are merit-based with some consideration to financial need.

DOG FENCE DIY SCHOLARSHIP
The Dog Fence DIY Scholarship was established to assist pre-veterinary and veterinary students with their education. Grants are untied, and provide the recipient students flexibility in how they use the funds.
Dog Fence DIY is the leading retailer of dog containment and dog training products. Our mission is to help pet owners take better care of their pets through better information.
Award Amount
▪ Two $1000 scholarships are available. Each scholarship will be distributed in two installments of $500 each per criteria below
▪ To be used at the student’s discretion for living expenses, educational expenses or quality of life expenses
Award Criteria and Eligibility
- Be enrolled in one of the following:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program
- Undergraduate biology or pre-veterinary studies program, or the equivalent
- Vocational program or community college working on technical or support degrees associated to the service of animals
- Graduate program focused on animal assisted therapy
- Must be enrolled full-time and in good standing at an accredited university
- Hold a minimum 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or equivalent
- Submit a 1,000 word essay on Ways to Improve the Quality of Life of Our Canine Companions or What To Do When Your Dog is Lost
- One of the two awards is open for students outside the United States
Renewal Guidelines
▪ The student must maintain a 3.5 GPA in order to receive each increment
▪ The student must maintain full-time enrollment and must remain in good standing at their institution
